Busting Migraines with Reflexology

Migraine attacks are sometimes fierce that the mere mention of the word can make a sufferer flinch in remembered pain. Say the word reflexology to them and you will likely get an uncomprehending stare.

A recent (2006) study in Denmark suggests that migraineurs who get more comfortable with reflexology are less prone to wince automatically at the mention of migraines.

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a massage practice centered on the theory that every part of the human body has a corresponding place on the sole of the foot. Reflexologists suppose that massage and fueling of these points on the foot can allay tautness, pain, and stress in the corresponding parts of the body.

In the Danish research involving an assortment of migraineurs and people suffering returning tension headaches. Nearly 90% of the people who participated in the study confessed taking prescribed drugs in the month prior to the study specifically for their headaches. After the study, 19% of participants said they were able to break off taking drugs for their headaches thanks to the treatment.

The examination involved a series of six to eight treatments with monthly follow-up treatments thereafter for a period of six months. At the conclusion of the six months, 23% of the examination participants said they were totally cured and no longer having headaches. Fifty-five percent of the participants noted marked progress in their condition—headaches were less frequent and less brutal. A remarkable 78% of the investigation participants became aware of an upturn in their condition.

At a follow-up check three months after the conclusion of the investigation 23% of the migraineurs said they were cured. About 41% said they felt their quality of life was improved.
The treatments were most effective on younger patients and those who had been undergoing migraines for a shorter period of time.
